Monty qualified as a dentist in 1983. After spending one year in a practice he developed a special interest in Paediatric dentistry and the treatment of young children and adults who had suffered traumatic injuries to their teeth.

He went back to university and undertook two years of study to specialise in Paediatric dentistry and gained a degree of Masters of Dental Sciences (MDSc).

• He then spent a further period of two years training in the management of young and difficult children in Leeds Dental Institute. During this time he also became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
• In 1996 he was awarded the highest accolade of a PhD in Paediatric Dentistry from the Leeds University.
• Monty has to his name around 45 publications in professional journals. He is also the author of a textbook of Paediatric Dentistry which has sold over 7,000 copies in six languages.
• He is an internationally respected teacher, researcher and clinician. He is invited to give lectures in Dentistry both nationally and internationally.
• He is dedicated to postgraduate education and gives many courses to qualified dentists on a wide range of subjects.
• Monty is a member and is serving or has served as an officer of the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, British Society of Paediatric Dentistry, European Organisation of Caries Research amongst many others.
• Monty became a Professor of Paediatric Dentistry at Leeds University in September 1999.
• In between his busy duties in the Dental School and lecturing Monty enjoys working in practice at Heckmondwike. It gives him an opportunity to promote the highest standards of dentistry in practice. His main areas of interest are the treatment of children and adolescents and Endodontic Treatment (root canal treatment).
• Outside dentistry Monty is a keen cricketer spending about as much time following and talking about the sport as dentistry.
